Vijay film sold at record price

Cinesouth.com
- 31.08.2007

Vijay has been criticized as doing similar type of roles and having no change of get-ups, but he seems to be traveling at rocket speed in Rajini's route. After Rajini, he seems the sure bet for people from theater owners to popcorn vendors to make a decent sum of profit. Vijay Vijay,Shirya

After 'Friends,' producer Appachan gave Vijay advance for his next film. After dragging on for years, he finally gave Appachan call sheet and now 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' is in the making. Appachan's wait has not been in vain and his patience has been rewarded.

In the history of Vijay's films, 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' has been sold for a record 25 crores. This humongous sum has been paid by the company Pyramid Sai Meera.

It is a known fact that Vijay's 'Pokkiri' had a great run in Kerala, and even in its second run, it is doing well in Thiruvananthapuram. So it has been decided to release 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' all over Kerala. Vijay fans win Andhra will also get to see the film.

'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' is to be released in Tamilnadu, Andhra and Kerala, so 250 prints are to be made. As far as Vijay's films are concerned, this is also a record!

Whose autograph do you want?

Galatta.com
August 31, 2007

Each one of us has a favourite actor. We aspire to meet our star and take an autograph. But who do these actors themselves want to take an autograph from?

Most actors are self-confessed fans of the Superstar (no surprises here)! Vijay says that as a youngster, he used to regularly hang around studios just to catch a glimpse of Rajini and maybe get an autograph too. Not much of a problem for him, since he hails from a film family.

New dad Suriya loves Kamal. And now that he is in the same profession as his matinee idol, he gets to meet him socially as well. Kollywood stars do not restrict themselves to Tamil stars alone.

Bollywood has an equal impact. Maddy aka Madhavan is a fan of Sanjeev Kumar. And looking at the variety of roles Maddy has enacted, the choice is justified. Most of the actresses are fans of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, who isn't?

But the admiration is not restricted to film actors alone. Prithiviraj wants to do a role like Bhagat Singh while Vikram is a fan of Tarzan!

It is only Trisha for Vijay

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
August 31, 2007

Trisha is on cloud nine these days as she will be featuring in 4-5 films this year as against her usual 3-4 films per year. With her favorite co-star Vijay, she will be seen in Dharani’s film tentatively titled Kuruvi the shooting of which is likely to commence by this year end. Though there were rumors of Asin and Vidya Balan in the film, sources have not confirmed the same.
Director Dharani who had earlier recorded success with his Gilli was said to be keen to repeat the same lucky combination of Vijay and Trisha in Kuruvi also. Due to this sentiment and the unparalleled onscreen chemistry between Trisha and Vijay is said to be the main reason for Trisha bagging this film.

And Trisha’s happiness does not stop there, as she has been signed by Radha Mohan for a movie called “Abhiyum Naanum” with Prakash Raj playing the role of her father. Trisha is excited about the film and says that it is sure to bring laurels to her. One more surprise from Goutham Menon is a woman centric film where Trisha will be seen with four debutants. The music for the film will be scored by the Isai Puyal A.R.Rahman. In addition to these Tamil films, she will also be working in Telugu films opposite Ravi Teja and Prabhas. It’s going to be a busy year for this talented actress.

London based producer Karunaas is producing this film, who is producing another film before this starring Ajith and directed by Raju Sundaram, Prabhu Deva's brother.

Vijay is Kuruvi!

By Moviebuzz | Monday, 27 August , 2007, 10:31

It is official that Vijay is the hero of Udayanidhi Stalin’s debut film as producer. The shoot of the film with a catchy title Kuruvi is likely to start sometime in September middle as soon as Vijay completes his Azhagiya Tamizh Mahan.

Dharani will be directing this action adventure mass movie. Vijay plays Kuruvi, not the chirpy bird, but a bird of a different type. The one line story, etched from sources- Vijay is a nice guy who lives in Burma Bazar, North Madras area of Chennai and makes a living as a ‘kuruvi’, a chap who goes to Singapore or Malaysia as a courier and comes back with contraband items.

One day he is set up by the baddies, and how he uses his brains and brawns to prove his innocence forms the rest of the story.

The industry rumour is that it is Ghilli-2, as it has same star cast and music director. When contacted director Dharani refused to say anything about the film, but later said: “ It is not Ghilli-2, actually Kuruvi is something totally different, and features artists like Vijay, Trisha, Prakash Raj and has music by Vidyasagar.”

Vijay will be conferred with the Degree of at the ensuing convocation of M.G.R University to be held on 27th August 2007. The noted scientist Padmabushan Dr. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, ISRO will be the Chief Guest at the function.

This recognition by M.G.R. University and their Board of Management is to honour Vijay's spectacular achievement in the movie industry and rising to glorious heights at such a young age.

The University also strongly feels that Vijay has contributed immensely to the cause of the poor and downtrodden through social welfare activities with support from his beloved fans.

In an quick chat to Moviebuzz, the youngest actor in the world ever to be conferred with a Doctorate speaks:

What did you feel when you first heard the news?
(Laughs) I thought that someone was pulling a fast one on me and told the person to stop joking. Later when the news was confirmed, I felt extremely touched and happy.

Why did you feel that someone was joking?
See first and foremost, I don’t feel that I have done something great to get a doctorate. What ever little social work and help that I have done to the needy and my fellowmen was out of my sincere passion to help them. And all this getting noticed by the board and conferring a doctorate on me brings joy and great happiness.

And when is the function going to be?
It will be conferred to me on Monday, August 27. And I am very happy and thrilled that Dr Madhavan Nair one of the finest scientists in India will be the chief guest.

If we were to say that it is this humble nature and modesty that makes you different from others...?

To Vijay fans and SHIMs Online...

This post is for the purpose of sharing the ideas that I had in my mind for a long time. It will be very lengthy, but I request everyone to take some time whenever possible and read this, and if possible give ur opinion through replies.

This post is dedicated to all those great souls in and out of orkut and other online forums whose main purpose of existence in the earth is to hate Vijay and his movies and let the whole world know about this fact. I would like to personally thank all these great souls because, without you existing, people like me would not have started liking Vijay more and more over the years.

For the ease of typing, I will call these guys as SHIMs(Shitty Headed Idiotic Morons) Before proceeding on to talk about SHIMs, I would like to clear off a few myths about Vijay.

I am sure the SHIMs are not going to be satisfied by any of my answers, but it’s my duty as a Vijay fan to do this.

Myth 1: Vijay is here in film industry only because of his dad.

Great. Excellent discovery. If his dad is the only reason for his existence today, then he would have become a forgotten actor today. When filmy father's of other actors were able to get them a Manirathnam or any other top director or top banner, SAC was able to maximum make his son act only in his own movie. And to get him to the reach of people, he had no other way but to make movies satisfying B and C centers. May be when other actors struggled hard and got a car to start their film journey, Vijay got a free old bicycle from his father. Now how he won the race to stardom with this bicycle is his secret of success.

Myth 2: Vijay was able to sustain only because his father produced films with him.

His father was able to get producers for his son. But his films only helped Vijay it show his face on screen. They never helped him qualitatively to build up his career. I have written about this in my blog also earlier. When other actors who supposedly "struggled" their way to stardom had only the barrier of getting established as an actor, Vijay had all negatives on his side. His initial movies being categorized soft porn genre, his very ordinary appearance (which has been criticized openly), not many big directors helping his way, moderately budgeted films, even heroines were new. He had the necessity to prove himself fit as a hero material. From there, till today when he is a big star, his way was full of hard work, perseverance, sincerity.. That had sustained him in the industry.

Myth 3: Vijay and his father pay the theatres and run his films.

I guess this had been answered many times. If they had so much money to pay and run more than a dozen films for 100 days and few of them for more than 200 days, then they can keep making 3 films a year, all with Vijay as hero, start a theater of their own and run these 3 films for 100+ days in that theatre and claim that all Vijay's movies run for 100 days. Are these SHIMs nuts???

Myth 4: Vijay knows nothing more than dance. He is unfit to act.

Vijay himself says "I will give me just pass mark as an actor, if I had to choose between actor and dancer, I am a good dancer" Now how many actors have a heart to tell this in public even as a joke? That too after 14 yrs of acting in films? There are people like Anand Babu, Prabhu Deva who were able to get fame by their dance but were not able to sustain themselves as heroes with their talents. If this myth was true, Vijay would be sitting at home without films.

Myth 5: Vijay fans are all rogues and rascals.

Most of Vijay fans are from rural areas. That doesn’t mean that they are uncivilized and illiterate. There are Vijay fans in IT firms, engineering colleges, studying MBA, doing social services, self-employed etc etc. We are not as jobless as few people who can send 500 abuse mails about Vijay to save their hero and who bash Vijay all over internet to hide the status of the stinking films of their hero.

Myth 6: Girls hate Vijay

I am not gonna answer this question. People who believe in the statement above can see for themselves whether it is true or false when ATM releases.

Myth 7: Vijay imitates superstar Rajini and is greedy for the coveted title.

Neither Vijay nor his fans have any craze for that title. If some one is offered some title by the voting of the film fraternity themselves, it’s a courtesy to go and accept it. That is professional ethics. We are all happy with Ilayathalapathy Vijay. The fact that he is a superstar is well known to us and we need no titles to declare it for others who cannot digest this fact.

Myth 8: Vijay cannot win any awards in his life.

Yes. I agree. Because for the Tamil film awards jury, acting means crying and shouting, make up and getup, mottai and sottai, loosu and maakaan, sevidu and kurdudu…. These dumb rules exist for years, and casual acting cannot be considered as good acting. If someone acts casual, it means that they are doing something effortlessly without putting in hard work. We know ppl who get name as good actors having “I have piles from today morning” and “I haven’t peed for 2 days” expression. Acting is a hopeless term as far as Tamil industry is concerned.

Myth 9: Vijay acts only in remakes. All his hits are remakes.

In Tamil Nadu, we never use to see any kind of dubbed movies from Telugu, Malayalam or Hindi. Except very very few, all dub movies turned to be utter flops. And same way, even all remakes are not hits here. Vijay's remakes are hit due to his perfection in making according to Tamil culture. Nowadays, every other person is doing remakes, you can see for youself the movie list of all top Tamil actors from 2006-2008, you can see how many are remake movies. Even upcoming actors are doing remakes to establish themselves. But when Vijay was in the same state years back, he has done only straight movies and that is what has established him. And even remakes, he had done 9 remake films out of his 45 films. That is just 20%. Now has anyone cared to look back and see the 36 straight movies of Vijay and see hits like Poove Unakaagha, TMT, Love Today, Kushi, Thiruppachi, Sivakaasi etc in that? And how many take into consideration that more than 13 films have come out in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada as remakes of Vijay movies?

Myth 10: Sun TV supports Vijay and pulls down "someone", Vijay TV is paid and run by Vijay and his father.

I don't know where the hell people get time to send SMS and mails to TV channels begging and scaring them to play an actor's songs. And media always supports people who help them grow up. Vijay always maintains a good rapport with all channels, I have seen his shows even on Raj TV and Jaya TV. No use of creating your own stories to bring down a person. Some people are always hostile to media but their fans expect media to support him!!! And again, if Vijay and SAC have so much money to run a TV channel, they can always show Vijay in it 24X7, bashing other actors..

Myth 11: Vijay cannot act with get up changes.

Vijay has the talent to make people accept him in any role with his own face and body build. He has the talent to put in right body language that suits any character. SHIMs can never understand such things, because for them fashion show is best acting. And as Sathyaraj said in Vijay Rasigan express "When people have started seeing you as Vijay on screen, they will always expect to see Vijay. If you do a get up change and appear as someone, they will not be interested much in that." Exactly. And wasn't it good to see a policeman as handsome as Sathyamoorthy IPS, a mechanic as smart as Thirumalai, a collector as youthful as Maduravel, a villager as good looking as Sivagiri??

Myth 12: Vijay is the worst looking actor, he has no looks to act as hero

Well, if someone's face can bring joy to the hearts of millions and millions of people right from age 6 to 60, if someone is considered by lots of people as one in their family, as a brother, as a son, as a friend, if someone has a heart kind enough to treat all fans like friends, he is definitely best looking person. And before talking about a person, his birth, his parents and family, I would better suggest people to think for a moment what it feels like if someone says a similar thing about your family, your parents. Coz definitely you are not Mr. Handsome in the world. So better minbd your words hereafter.

Ok!!! now that I answered a few myths, let’s speak more about SHIMs. I wonder how on the earth such people can exist, who can live for the sole purpose for hating a person. Spreading bad word mouth for his films, sending SMS degrading him and his films, forwarding mails, starting anti communities, peeping into other's communities and fighting there, doing A vs B fights, creating useless polls...

Now at this point I would like to ask the same questions to Vijay fans...

1) What is the use of creating all these anti communities? Tit for tat, shit for shit will never help any day!!!
2) What is the use of voting in orkut polls and other online polls? Are this polls gonna decide the supremo of Tamil Industry? And wat is Vijay or any other gonna get out of winning in these polls?
3) Why on the hell you compare Vijay with people who are not worth his stature? I agree that competition is required, but can't u find some people who are worthy to compete with?

These SHIMs are not gonna change any day. Whatever you talk to them is like money spent on "someone's" films. Neither the one who spends get benefit, nor the one who reads it and not even those for whom the post is addressed. When that is the case, don't waste your time talking to such SHIMs anymore. Time will answer them; Vijay's movies will answer them.

These SHIMs know nothing more than the past 10-15 movies of their actors. But we know Vijay right from Naalaya Theerpu and his struggles on his way to stardom. If you are a true Vijay fan, stay like that forever irrespective of whether his films succeed or not. (I am sure that the negative will never happen anymore) He has entertained us with lot of movies for more than 10 yrs and been a role model for many of us always.

He always respects his peers and stays humble. We should not only stop with enjoying his movies, but adapt his policies in our lives too. That’s the best gift that we can give him as fans. I hope you guys will agree with me on this. If someone says something that hurts you just throw it away like “someone’s” movies are thrown out of theatres. Let’s forget about SHIMs and their dirty talks and concentrate only on Vijay forever!!!

Long Live Vijay!!!

Thanks for your time,
Bye,
KSR

ATM, Kaalai, Vel, Sathyam and Polladavan sold

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
August 04, 2007

We have seen how the superstar movie was sold for a record price. Now let us see the response of distributors to younger lads of Kollywood.

Vijay who has a good fan base in Tamil Nadu is generally considered to be the box office savior as his films do a decent business.

His last released Pokkiri has brought in 30 crores and his upcoming Azhagiya Tamil Magan is said to have been sold for a jaw dropping 4.5 crores in the NSC area (North Arcot, South Arcot & Chengelpet) alone. 3.25 crores is the rate at which the overseas rights (includes Malaysia, Singapore, USA, UK) have been sold. Rates for Chennai will depend on the number of prints to be distributed.

Silambarasan's Kaalai is hot in trade too despite his last average grosser Vallavan. Kaalai is reportedly sold for 1.39 crores in the Kovai area (includes Coimbatore, Erode, Thirupur). Kettavan's rates are yet to be decided. Chennai rate is still to be decided based on the number of prints.

Vishal, the tall dark hero of Kollywood who is said to be treading in Vijay's path has proved himself to be a saleable actor and his Malaikottai and Sathyam are two of the most awaited movies this year. Sathyam, where he plays an encounter cop with Upendra and Nayantara in the support roles has its overseas rights sold for 1.25 crores.

Vel is Surya's next film after Sillunu Oru Kaadal and is being directed by Hari. The lucky pair of Surya and Asin is ready to rock Tamil Nadu once again. This movie is set for a Diwali release and is sold for close to one crore for Chennai city area alone.

Dhanush also comes up with Polladavan, which is alleged to be sold for 2 crores in the NSC area (North Arcot, South Arcot & Chengelpet). This is certainly impressive considering Parattai debacle.

A song was recently shot at Phuket beach where for the first time Vijay has reportedly shown off his torso like Salman Khan of Hindi films. Music for this peppy number shot at Thailand beach has been scored by A R Rahman.
Azhagiya Tamil Magan

When quizzed about the film's expectations, Vijay asks his fans not to expect too much but at the same time guarantees for the entertainment segment.

Vijay and Shriya off to Kazakhstan

Cinesouth.com
- 02.08.2007
Vijay, Shriya
Nowadays, directors start work only after choosing their favorite destination to fly to.

It has become an unwritten rule in Tamil cinema that all duets are filmed overseas. The same is true for 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.'

Director Barathan filmed Namitha in Thailand's Pattaya Beach. Now he is all set to fly to Kazakhstan, once part of the old Soviet republic. It's a big industrial place, but the villages are very picturesque. One can see nature at its best here.
Vijay, Namitha
Barathan plans to shoot the Vijay-Shriya duet here, so the unit of 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan' will soon fly to Kazakhstan.

All that's fine, but has the Isai Puyal given the tune? Strange but true that AR Rehman has given 3 songs even before the start of the film. Barathan is thrilled that no other director has been as fortunate as him.

Hope his luck sees him through to the success of the film.

Vijay goes for a cool dude look in his new film “Azhagiya Tamizh Mahan” (ATM). Vijay, Namitha and the unit of ATM were in Thailand, shooting an item song on the beaches of Phuket. It is a peppy song, shot glamorously and tuned by the maestro A.R. Rahman.

It’s also the first time that Vijay has bared his body, Bollywood style. ATM is a thriller, about a young man with extra sensory perception. Shriya is the heroine. The film, directed by newcomer Bharatan, is due for release in September.

When asked about the high expectations the film has aroused after that blockbuster “Pokkiri,” Vijay shrugs: “Please don’t expect too much. But I’m sure you will be entertained.”

Ajith or Vijay – Director Prabhudeva’s choice

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
August 01, 2007

Karunas of London Ayangaran is all set to take Kollywood by storm. In an attempt to fix his base, he has even managed to lure Vijay and Ajith to sign on the dotted lines. Besides, Karunas also signed Prabhudeva to direct a movie for him and was hoping to bring together Prabhudeva and Ajith for a project. However, the producer could only manage call sheets of Vijay and Prabhudeva by next summer.Vijay is very busy with his ATM followed by Dharani’s movie and Prabhudeva is equally busy directing the Hindi Pokkiri with Salman Khan, titled Wanted Dead or alive and all set to release next summer.

Looks like Ajith’s dates are available by year-end after Billa 2007. Owing to this, Karunas is trying to rope in K.S.Ravikumar to direct the Ajith starrer instead of Prabhudeva. K.S.Ravikumar who is busy giving final touches of Dasavatharam is yet to sign on the dotted lines, however.

It remains to be seen whether Prabhudeva and Vijay will come together again after the super hit Pokkiri.

Releases of the big four – Bheema, Vel, ATM & Dasavatharam

Azhagiya Tamil Magan is making an excellent progress. With Vijay’s latest Pokkiri being declared a blockbuster, the debutant director Barathan is under a lot of pressure as he has to be in sync with the fans expectations. ATM features two glamour queens Shriya and Namitha, who are going to sizzle on screen with Vijay, in exotic locales, for the music tuned by the music maestro A.R. Rahman.
The ace music director and Vijay are joining hands after Udhaya, so the expectations on the music front are also very high. Another significant information on this musical-action extravaganza is an action sequence in which Ilayathalapathy and Vijay will be fighting each other. Confused? For the first time, Vijay is donning a double role. Double treat is awaiting all Vijay fans this Diwali.

Dharani and Vijay project updates

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
August 01, 2007

The fiery and the fast phased combination of director Dharani and Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay is all set to ignite the Kollywood screen with their next venture after the latter completes Azhagiya Tamil Magan. This venture will be produced by Udaynidhi, son of local administration minister Mr. M K Stalin and grandson of chief minister Karunanidhi.
Script for the film is ready and as the duo is teaming up after the blockbuster victory of Ghilli, expectations have been catapulted to a dizzy height. On the music department, Vidya Sagar is reported to have composed few scintillating tracks which are said to be par excellence and the music director is working on the remaining tracks.

Villains in Dharani’s films assume a pivotal role and the search for a suitable ‘bad element’ is on and as of now there are two contestants who are in the fray for this coveted position. They are Prakash Raj and Gopichand from Telegu filmdom. Meanwhile there are also talks going on that Sivaji villain Suman has clinched this ‘prestigious’ deal.

As regards the title of the film, Dharani is likely to announce the same soon. Producer Udaynidhi is keen that the film should be talked about for its grandeur and content and finance is no issue at all here. This film will be 2008 summer release.
